I did expect this, and it does not detract from the value the Big Knob offers in my configuration: The provided 'Dim' functionality can be used to attenuate the output even further, allowing the knob to be turned up such that the attenuation of both outputs, overall, is even. I have only observed one issue with the unit over my time using it When attenuated nearly entirely (approximately the lowest eighth of the knob's turning range), one channel is slightly louder than the other. Mackie's well priced product resolves this issue. I have the unit between my monitors and the stereo output from my mixer, the latter hardware incapable of any attenuation for monitoring outside of listening on headphones, which does me no good if I want to mix to recording levels and also monitor over my loudspeakers.
